Ormersfield House, near Fleet, Hampshire

Planning policy places strict controls upon new residential development in the countryside but it is sometimes possible to obtain planning permission to convert and re-use an existing rural building for residential use. This project involved just such a proposal: the conversion and change of use of a large garage block into a single dwelling.

The site lay within an attractive area of countryside and adjacent to Listed buildings. Enlisting the help of Crossley Design Associates, one of our architectural partners, a scheme for the building’s alteration and conversion was drawn up, to the clients’ specific requirements. When submitted to the District Council and after some minor modifications, the proposal was supported by Planning and Conservation Officers. We acted as project managers and lead planning consultants, working also with Graham Gover Solicitor, one of our legal partners, in delivering a legal agreement to govern the payment of a range of financial contributions.
